The test IO proxy server should be enabled if a staging environment is protected by a firewall and can only be accessed from a whitelisted IP address. 

Most common examples: staging environment or company’s backend. 

Letting testers in via proxy also allows us to filter the testers from their Google Analytics footprints (if tested on a live environment) to avoid traffic analytics biases.
